Why Reading Fully?
The adverb fully is defined as “entirely or wholly” and that is exactly what I hope to help you grow into–a more whole reader who can entirely describe his or her reading identity (even as it grows and changes), and a person who reads more wholly, engaging with the entire scope of human life, with all its splendor, diversity, struggle, tragedy, and triumph.
I also hope to talk about the benefits of reading as it relates to civic engagement and discerning citizenship in our current political and cultural climate. Buckle up! This will be a ride!
Hi! I’m Miss Fuller. I teach High School English in Topeka, KS.
I love to help students discover a love for reading and learn more about themselves and the world through reading. This blog is a place to help you do that, too! This blog is for anybody who wants to restart or enhance their reading life.
I’ve devoted countless hours of my English-teaching career to developing young readers. Throughout that process, I’ve learned how to be a better reader myself, and my reading identity has branched out significantly. I believe that I can help others find books they love and spur others on to read more.
In this blog, you will encounter a variety of tools to help you with your own reading life. Book recommendations, learning about genres, and practical tips for your own reading growth.
Why did I start a blog (instead of just using a social media tool)?
- I love to write, but I haven’t made it a practice, professionally. Now is the time.
- I want to help people develop their reading skills along with their depth of knowledge about the world.
- I want to help people connect to other people, by getting them to read, which will broaden their understanding of the human condition with all of its virtues and vices.
- I believe that reading is one of the best ways a person can be encouraged, relieve their stress, identify what is beautiful, and appreciate the good things in life.
- I believe that reading fully is one of the best ways to push back ignorance, injustice, evil, and discord in our world.
- I chose the format of a blog because I’m not good at Instagram, not comfortable on Facebook, and I can’t elaborate on Twitter!
I hope to connect with students, teachers, professors, librarians, and the person who just enjoys sitting down to enjoy a book. But most of all, if this blogs helps even ONE person become a better reader, I will have done my job!
I hope you enjoy this blog! Thanks for stopping by!
